Choosing and optimizing for the right targeted key phrases is the most important part of getting your site listed in the top ten on major search engines. Here's how I do it:
- Analyze all the keyword research, deciding which will be most effective by looking at the keyword effectiveness index (abbreviated KEI), a number generated that describe how easy that keyword is to get into the top ten. It lists the competition for that phrase and how many times daily it's used. See an example here.
- Match key phrases with individual web pages, creating a them for each page, for example, leather travel bags.
- Add exact key phrase to appropriate areas
- body text
- page title
- description
- meta keywords
- rename pages to include key phrases
