Step Ten: Monitoring your web site's progress and performance monthly helps gather helpful information
Once you've invested in all of the previous work, it's important that you monitor your progress. Here's why. |
Monitoring your progress is another great way to gather useful information, such as what web pages are looked at most often.
You can make sure these pages have lots of calls to action such as buying a product or joining a mailing list, or at least have good links to important areas of interest on your web site.
It also tells you which pages need more work. It's also a great way to know what search engines are referring you visitors as well as discovering new key phrases.
Here's what I do for my clients:
- Run weekly reports to monitor search engine rankings and send to client
- Monitor number of visitors to site, analyze visitor data
- What web site or search engine referred them?
- What are the most popular pages (do they need revamping?)
- What pages give you the greatest results
- Discover new key phrases that may work even better than the original ones
