Web Site Content
Your web site must contain quality original content in order to rank well in search engines. This means text. I can write it, you can write it, you can even hire a professional writer, but it's got to be done in order to rank well in search engines.
If you already have marketing materials, catalogs, brochures or advertisement copy, you have the beginnings of content for
your site. I am also happy to provide you with text for your
site. My best advice, since you know your business better
than anyone else, is to have you write about your company. Try to answer these and other questions:
- WHO - who you or your company/organization are
- WHAT - what is the site all about
- WHY - why should buy from you, use your services, etc.
- WHEN - when did you begin doing business?
- WHERE - your location, where you sell or operate
- HOW - how to buy, use your service, how to reach you, etc.
The average web page should have somewhere between 200 and 500 words. If you're writing content, I recommend using Microsoft Word's "WORD COUNT" feature, on the tools menu.
Here are some tips on how to write your content:
- keep your paragraphs short
- use up to three or four concise sentences in each paragraph
- use bulleted and numbered lists.
- use bolded, italicized and underlined text for key points
- once you're done, read it out loud to see how it sounds
- do a grammar and spelling check
Studies show that attention spans are much more limited when reading web copy as opposed to printed text. People scan when they're surfing the web. Their eyes move straight to text that's different than the rest of the page.
